Superb day for nurses who are keen to improve their surgical nursing and implant skills. The day will introduce nurses to surgical
nursing techniques in general dental practice. The day is suitable for dental nurses with little or no surgical experience. During the
course nurses will be provided a basic understanding of surgical techniques which will bring confidence during any surgical dentistry.
Course includes preparing for surgery, draping protocols and pre- and post-operative patient management, workshop on instruments

Aims and objectives

  • Gain understanding of surgical basics
  • Be able to prepare a sterile environment and follow draping protocols
  • Identify the instruments and equipment required for surgical treatment
  • Gain an understanding of retraction techniques for surgical treatment
  • Build confidence in the ability to assist the clinician and work as a team

We are very fortunate to have an expert implantologist Dr Jatin Desai and our resident Surgical Expert Dr Raj as speakers.

Dr Jatin Desai


Dr Desai qualified in 1979. He subsequently worked at several hospitals in the field of Maxillofacial Surgery obtaining his Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons
England. He is now in private practice where he runs a five surgery completely private restorative practice. Jatin has an interest in Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry and has been placing dental implants for the past twenty years. He accepts referrals and has been involved in teaching and mentoring in Implant Dentistry.

Dr V Murugaraj (Raj)


Dr Raj is currently working as a Specialty Doctor in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery at Royal Berkshire Hospital. At the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Raj has developed teaching tools for trainees, including video which is available on the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon’s website on suturing techniques. Raj has developed local policies for the Oral surgery Department and recently designed a Safety checklist for Minor Oral surgery procedures based on WHO safety check list.
